Anne has a job title that would make most people envious, she is a Futurist or Futurologist at the Institute of Futurology. Futurist at the Institute for Futures Research. Here she mainly researches the labor market of the future, supporting companies in predicting what their reality will look like a few years down the line.
What will the labor market of the future look like?
According to Anne, we will see some industries grow while other industries shrink. Industries in manufacturing, service and education will be automated and disappear. On the other hand, we will see a huge focus on social skills/soft skills and tolerance because we will see an increase in how people work together in the workplace. Teamwork will be the new buzzword and therefore more team leaders will be needed in the future. Team leaders need to be able to facilitate group dynamics and take on this task so that we can become more adaptable when interacting with each other.
What are megatrends and how do they affect our daily lives?
A megatrend is a trend that no one can hide from. These are things that we are absolutely certain will happen. They are trends that have been happening for a long time. A megatrend could be demographic development, ageing and urbanization. Citizens are getting older and older, even though there is a lot of focus on the young people in our society. In addition, urbanization and individualization are megatrends. In the future, more people will live in cities regardless of trends, and there will be a greater focus on the individual. Anne says that there are many business leaders who haven't even noticed the increasing individualization in our society, which is why they use the same template for all employees for appraisal interviews.
What is a neo-generalist and a specialist - and what role will they play in the future?
A neo-generalist is someone who is both a generalist and a specialist. They live between two worlds, and their lives are often a little differently structured - whereas a specialist needs to immerse themselves in things and look at the details. In the future, both specialists and neo-generalists will be more project-oriented and fewer will be permanent employees.
